CU achieves international recognition in prestigious Times Higher Education ranking
Chittagong University (CU) has achieved international recognition based on indicators of education, research, and graduate employment. The university has secured positions in six subjects in the list of the world’s top 1000 universities in the prestigious Times Higher Education World Subject Ranking 2026.
This information was announced in a press release sent from CU’s Information and Public Relations department on Friday (January 23).
In Computer Science, Chittagong University’s international position is 601–800 (joint). In this category, CU ranks 2nd in Bangladesh (joint) and 1st among Chittagong universities (joint).
In Life Sciences (Biology), CU’s international position is 801–1000. The university achieved 2nd place in the country (joint) and 1st in Chittagong (joint). In this category, the education, research, and graduate workplace positions of the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Botany, Zoology, and Fisheries departments were evaluated.
In Physical and Earth Sciences, Chittagong University’s international position is 801–1000, ranking 2nd in Bangladesh (joint) and 1st in Chittagong. This ranking considered the overall activities of the Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Forestry, Marine Science, Oceanography, Soil Science, Environmental Science, Applied Chemistry, and Geography departments.
In Business and Economics, Chittagong University’s international position is 801–1000, with the university ranking 3rd in the country (joint) and 1st in Chittagong. The quality of education and research of the Finance, Economics, Marketing, Accounting, Management, Human Resource Management, and Banking departments was evaluated here.
In Engineering, CU’s international position is 801–1000, achieving 3rd place in Bangladesh (joint) and 1st in Chittagong (joint). In this field, the quality of education and research of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering department was considered as the basis for ranking.
Additionally, Chittagong University is internationally positioned at 801–1000 in Social Sciences, ranking 3rd in Bangladesh (joint) and 1st among Chittagong universities. The education and research activities of the Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, Public Administration, International Relations, and Journalism departments were included in this ranking.
The university authorities congratulated the teachers, students, and staff of Chittagong University on this international success. They announced that Chittagong University has made significant progress in research in recent years. The university is moving forward by breaking all previous records with the highest number of research publications this year. Expectations were also expressed for achieving even better positions on the international stage in the future.
