Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, Chittagong University branch, has strongly condemned and protested against the alleged threat made by university branch Chhatra Dal joint organizational secretary Md. Sifatul Islam to the Chittagong University correspondent of ‘Star News’. The correspondent was allegedly threatened with being taken to the hills and beaten for publishing news about illegal seat occupation at Shaheed Farhad Hossain Hall of Chittagong University (CU).
The information was provided through a press release signed by Md. Ishaq Bhuiyan, publicity secretary of CU Chhatra Shibir, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, Chittagong University branch president Ibrahim Hossain Rony and secretary Mohammad Parvez expressed this condemnation in a joint statement.
In the joint statement, they said an audio recording of threats made to the journalist has come to light following the publication of news titled ‘Chhatra Dal worker accused of drug involvement staying illegally in hall’. Threatening a journalist in this manner while performing professional duties is not acceptable in any way. They strongly condemned and protested the actions of Chhatra Dal leader Md. Sifatul Islam.
The leaders said that just as illegally occupying seats and staying in Shaheed Farhad Hossain Hall is condemnable, the university administration’s negligence in performing its duties in this matter is also clear. They strongly demanded that the administration take immediate appropriate action against those illegally occupying seats in the halls. At the same time, exemplary punishment must be ensured against the accused through proper investigation of the incident.
The leaders further said that the politics of beating and threatening journalists in retaliation for publishing news was a practiced behavior of Chhatra League terrorists during the previous fascist era. Unfortunately, the repetition of such incidents through any Chhatra Dal leader reminds them of that fascist mentality. They said that if anyone tries to establish fascism anew, their fate will be the same as that of the fugitive fascists.
The leaders called upon all student organizations to play a role in ensuring student welfare and rights by maintaining a democratic environment and avoiding the politics of threats, terrorism, and occupation.
