Two-day event sees enthusiastic participation from students
The closing and prize distribution ceremony of the Central Annual Sports Competition-2026 was held at the central playground of Chittagong University on Monday evening.
The two-day competition (February 8-9) was organised by the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) and managed by the Department of Physical Education.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Yahya Akhtar distributed prizes among the winners as chief guest.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan, Vice-Chancellor of Port City International University Prof Dr Mohammad Toiyob Chowdhury, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) and President of CU Sports Advisory Committee Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin attended the event as special guests.
Also present were chief judge and Dean of Science Faculty Prof Dr Mohammad Al-Amin along with other judges, hall provosts and residential teachers, members of the sports organising committee, invited guests, teachers and students, acting director of CU Department of Physical Education, officials and employees, office heads, journalists from print and electronic media, and other dignitaries.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor thanked and congratulated CUCSU, the Department of Physical Education and everyone involved with the sports competition for successfully completing the central annual sports competition in a beautiful and pleasant environment.
“This year’s central sports competition received a different positive dimension. Students from each hall participated spontaneously in the games. Seeing the enthusiasm of the students, we forgot our hardships. Coming to the sports competition, I understood that interest in sports has increased among students,” he said.
He expressed hope that the athletes would continue their practice and brighten the image of Chittagong University by making good contributions at national and international levels in the future.
The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the winners and called on them to maintain the continuity of success by continuing their practice. He also called on those who could not win to prepare themselves through regular practice for future success.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin congratulated the winners and wished the defeated well. “Our students have shown their extraordinary skills in sports. I hope this practice will continue rather than be a one-day affair and greater victories will be achieved in the future,” he said.
He thanked CUCSU, the Department of Physical Education, all hall administrations and everyone concerned.
In his presidential speech at the closing ceremony, CUCSU VP Ibrahim Hossain Rony thanked everyone. “I hope students will be interested in sports instead of drugs on campus. I expect CU campus athletes will brighten the name of the university at national and international levels after the central sports competition,” he said.
Among male halls, CU Shahid Abdur Rob Hall won the championship with 64 points, CU Shah Amanat Hall became runners-up with 50 points, and CU Atish Dipankar Srigyan Hall secured third place with 21 points.
Hirok Roy of Shahid Abdur Rob Hall and Rumon Joy Tanchangya of Atish Dipankar Srigyan Hall jointly became individual champions with 20 points each, while Rumon Joy Tanchangya earned the title of fastest man. Md Zakir Hossain of Shah Amanat Hall became individual runners-up with 15 points.
Among female halls, CU Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia Hall won the championship with 54 points, Pritilata Hall became runners-up with 16 points, and Shamsun Nahar Hall secured third place with 10 points.
Tamanna Mahbub Preeti of Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia Hall and Assistant Sports Secretary of CUCSU earned the titles of fastest woman and individual champion with 20 points. Mifta Jahan Mim of the same hall became runners-up with 13 points.
The event was conducted by Sonia Parvin Laki, Mosa Sajeda Esfat Rahman Samanta, Mithila Mallik and Sakib Ahmed.
