Accused admits guilt after confrontation by passengers
A Chittagong University student was sexually harassed on a moving bus while returning to campus on Saturday afternoon. The accused was later detained and handed over to police.
The incident took place around 4:30pm on a Drutajan Transport bus. The victim is a student of the 2019-20 session.
According to the student, when the bus reached Chowdhuryhat area, a man sitting behind her touched her body through the gap between seats. When she protested, he claimed he was asleep and did nothing intentionally.
Other passengers and students on the bus questioned the accused. He eventually admitted his guilt. Students then informed CUCSU Transport and Accommodation Secretary Ishaq Bhuiyan and the university’s proctorial body. The accused was taken to the campus police box.
The accused is a mason who lives in Chattogram’s Fateyabad area. His home is in Muradnagar, Cumilla.
Ishaq Bhuiyan said, “I was at Gate No. 1 when informed about the incident. We brought him to the campus police box and informed the proctorial body. He admitted his guilt during questioning.”
Assistant Proctor Nurul Hamid Kanon said the man was handed over to police following demands from students present at the scene.
