Professor Md. Anwarul Azim Arif, the 16th Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University (CU), has passed away (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun). He breathed his last at the age of 75 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chittagong at 3:40 AM on Wednesday.
The first janaza was held at Jamiyatul Falah Mosque in Chittagong at 11 AM on Thursday. Later, after the second janaza at Uzir Ali Chowdhury Mosque in Ishwamatikul, Satkania, following Asr prayers, he will have buried in the family graveyard.
Born on May 1, 1951 in Ishwamatikul, Satkania upazila of Chittagong, Professor Arif began his career as a lecturer in the Management Department at CU in 1976. He obtained his BBA and M.Com degrees from Chittagong University and an MBA degree from the Philippines in 1982.
In 2001, he served as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CU. He was appointed as the 16th Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University on June 14, 2011 and served in this position for four years from June 15, 2011 to June 14, 2015.
Besides teaching, he also served as Vice-Chancellor of Premier University and International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC). Additionally, he held the positions of Chairman of Social Islami Bank Limited and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Islamic Banks Consultative Forum (IBCF).
