Ultimatum over shuttle train crisis ahead of Monday’s meeting

Chittagong University students have threatened to cut off all rail communication between Chattogram and the rest of the country if Monday’s meeting with railway representatives fails to produce satisfactory results regarding the shuttle train crisis.

The warning was issued on Sunday (May 3) at 10:00am during a sit-in programme organized by ‘Voice of Students’ at Zero Point of the university.

Students participating in the programme chanted various slogans including “Reform is needed right now,” “Students die in the heat, administration stays in AC,” and “Reform, reform, not radish.”

Ashiqur Rahman, president of the organization, said at the programme, “Students are constantly facing various problems. These problems must be resolved quickly. It is urgent to ensure the safety of the shuttle train, maintain a regular schedule, and add modern coaches. If tomorrow’s meeting between the university administration and railway representatives does not produce any effective results, we will be forced to launch a strict programme such as blocking all rail communication between Chattogram and the rest of the country.”

The shuttle train crisis has been a persistent issue for CU students who rely on the service for daily commuting between the city and campus. Complaints include safety concerns, irregular schedules, and poor condition of train coaches.

The meeting with railway officials is scheduled for Monday, which students view as a critical opportunity for resolving the long-standing transportation problems.
