The Statistics Cultural Arena, a cultural organisation of students from the Department of Statistics at University of Chittagong, held its inaugural cultural event ‘Srijondhara’ on Sunday (May 10).
The programme began at 10:00 AM at the auditorium of the Faculty of Marine Sciences and Fisheries. Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Amin attended the event as the chief guest.Special guests included Professor Dr. M. Shahadat Hossain and Professor Md. Shakhawat Hossain.
Presiding over the event, organisation president Samia Sultana Shormi said the organisation had grown from a small idea into reality through the dedication and sincere efforts of its members. She added that the platform aims to create opportunities for students to engage in creative activities such as music, drama and recitation alongside their academic studies.
Speaking at the programme, Department Chairman Professor Md. Shakhawat Hossain expressed hope that students would continue to nurture their creative talents. He said preserving cultural values and traditions would help students play a meaningful role in resisting negative cultural influences.
Chief guest Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Amin said the university administration has always encouraged cultural initiatives. He noted that science faculty students spend long hours in laboratories and such events help fulfil their emotional and intellectual needs.
