CU CORRESPONDENT
A leader of the banned Bangladesh Students League (BSL) staged a demonstration at the University of Chittagong (CU) on Thursday, holding a symbolic body of a child killed in the rubeola attacks.
The programme was held at the university’s Shaheed Minar at 8am.
The demonstrator was identified as Wahidul Alam, a student of the 2016-17 batch of the Sports Science department and a former joint secretary of the CU unit of BSL.
During the sit-in, he held a placard that read: “Children are dying in rubeola; why is Yunus riding VVIP service? Tarek, answer us.” The placard also bore the name of Chittagong University Students League as the organiser of the protest.
BSL was banned by the interim government two months after the student-led mass uprising ousted the Awami League government on August 5, 2024. The organisation was declared a terrorist outfit over allegations of killing protesters and carrying out acts of violence during the quota reform and anti-government movement.
