The Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) held a sit-in demonstration in front of the university’s administrative building today, August 10, demanding the immediate introduction of dedicated campus bus services for students.
The protest program saw spontaneous participation from CUCSU executives and general students, who voiced their demands through various chants highlighting transportation grievances. Protesting students raised slogans comparing the campus transit setup with other major public institutions, calling for immediate transport reforms and safe commute facilities.
During the demonstration, a delegation of CUCSU leaders met with the Vice Chancellor to present their demands directly. In response to the student body’s stance, the Vice Chancellor assured the delegation that he has convened a high-level meeting with Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) authorities scheduled for tomorrow, August 11, to work out a solution for student bus services.
Highlighting the background of the movement, CUCSU Communication and Housing Secretary Md. Ishak Bhuiyan stated that the campus currently relies almost exclusively on the shuttle train system, which remains plagued by operational issues and insufficient capacity. He noted that after official talks failed to yield a tangible result, the union was forced to organize the sit-in. He added that while they seek a peaceful resolution, failure to secure a concrete outcome from the upcoming BRTC meeting will compel them to announce tougher protest programs alongside the general student body.
