Chittagong University Central Students Union (CUCSU) is distributing free dual currency ATM cards from Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC to students today, Tuesday, April 21, 2026, until 5:00 PM.
No passport is required to collect or use the card. Students without a National ID (NID) can bring their birth certificate, student ID, a personal photo, and their nominee’s photo and NID to receive the card on the spot at CUCSU.
Before collecting the card, students are asked to complete two steps in advance. First, they need to download the CellFin app from the Play Store, then register using both sides of their NID, a selfie, and referral code 0170 is required to link the account to the Hathazari branch. Second, students must open an SMSA account through the app by selecting Hathazari Branch under the ‘Open A/C’ option. After bank approval, nominees’ details must be submitted to generate an account number.
On the day, students at CUCSU will be able to deposit and withdraw cash, activate their ATM card and set a PIN, receive remittances, transfer funds, apply for a cheque book, and open DPS or FDR accounts. Those who have not yet activated their account or card can do so by depositing a refundable amount of Tk. 100. Money can also be sent to an Islami Bank account via the bKash app using the NPSB service.
The dual currency card supports international payments, medical and tuition fees abroad, online purchases in BDT and USD, e-commerce, freelancing, Hajj and Umrah expenses, and cash withdrawals from ATMs both at home and overseas. A passport is needed only for sending dollars abroad.
All dual currency and international cards previously distributed through CUCSU have been activated. Dollar endorsements submitted earlier have also been processed, allowing those students to carry out international transactions.
An ATM/CRM booth and service centre for students is being set up near the Mugdha Water Corner at Zero Point on campus. In the meantime, students are advised to use the booths of Janata, Agrani, Dutch-Bangla, and Pubali banks available on campus.
