The University of Chittagong has won the Inter-University Environment Debate Competition 2026, held today at the Faculty of Marine Science auditorium, CU. The regional competition was organised by the Department of Environment under the Government of Bangladesh, with coordination from the Rajshahi University Debating Organisation (RUDO) and the Chittagong University Debating Society (CUDS).
Four universities from the Chittagong region took part in the competition. They were the University of Chittagong (CU), Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU), Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) and Comilla University (CoU).
The first round featured the CU and NSTU debating the motion: “Tree plantation is the most effective way to address climate change.” NSTU argued in favour of the motion while CU argued against it. Chittagong University won the round and moved forward in the competition.
In the second round, CUET faced CoU on the motion: “Individual awareness plays the most important role in environmental conservation.” CUET won the round and secured a place in the final.
The final brought together CU and CUET, with the debate centred on the motion: “The Paris Climate Agreement has failed to meet our expectations in addressing the global climate crisis.” The University of Chittagong won the final to be crowned regional champions of the competition.
The Vice-Chancellor of The University of Chittagong, Professor Dr. Md. Al Forkan was present as chief guest. Professor Dr. Md. Al Amin, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Deputy Director of the Department of Environment Selina Akter and Chittagong Regional Director Jamiruddin attended as special guests. CUDS Moderator Professor A B M Abu Noman and Associate Moderator and Assistant Professor of the Department of Pharmacy Nowrin Proma were also present at the event.
