The Chittagong University (CU) branch of Bashundhara Shubhosangha has announced the results of its essay competition held on the occasion of International Labour Day, along with a prize distribution ceremony and a book circle discussion session on the university campus.
Seven students took part in the competition. Md. Zakaria Hossain of the Bangladesh Studies department (2nd year) topped the list with 27 marks. Md. Mahmudul Hasan of the Arabic department (2nd year) came second with 26 marks and Azizia Salma of the Islamic History and Culture department (3rd year) placed third with 23 marks. The other participants were Abdullah Al Maher (22), Md. Mamun Or Rashid (20), Md. Nazim Uddin Masum (17) and Md. Faruk Hossain (16). Winners received books by noted author Imdadul Haq Milon, namely “O Radha, O Krishna” and “Paradhinata,” as prizes.
CU branch president Jannatul Ferdous said, “Today we successfully completed the result announcement and prize distribution ceremony of the essay competition held on the occasion of International Labour Day. Some wonderful books by Imdadul Haq Milon were given as prizes. We also organised a book circle session. Overall, it was a very good event and we were able to complete it successfully through the sincere efforts of everyone involved.”
General secretary Shahriar Munim Sabit said, “International Labour Day teaches us to be generous and humble. It encourages us to respect all kinds of work and professions. This essay competition organised by Bashundhara Shubhosangha, CU branch, will not only build a competitive spirit among students but also help spread knowledge among them. I thank Bashundhara Shubhosangha for involving us in such an initiative. I also thank all the participants and everyone who worked tirelessly to make this event happen. This good work will continue in the days ahead and our efforts to build a better society together will go on.”
Event secretary Abu Jihad said, “Today’s prize distribution ceremony went really well. The participation of so many people made the event lively. We awarded three winners with books by Imdadul Haq Milon, ‘O Radha, O Krishna’ and ‘Paradhinata.’ A book circle on ‘Char Kajolir Manush’ was also held, where everyone present discussed the book and enriched their understanding. We all worked together for this event. I specially thank general secretary Shahriar Munim Sabit and vice-president Mazharul Islam, whose support and advice made my work much easier. I am grateful to everyone whose hard work made today’s event a success and I congratulate all the participants and winners.”
Second-place winner Mahmudul Hasan expressed his joy, saying, “I am very happy to have placed second in the essay competition organised by Bashundhara Shubhosangha, CU branch. I am even happier to have received so many books as gifts. I sincerely thank the president, general secretary and everyone else involved in organising this event. Such programmes inspire us to learn and explore new things. I hope more events like this are held in the future.”
Alongside the competition, a book circle was held on Imdadul Haq Milon’s novel “Char Kajolir Manush,” where participants discussed the storyline, the author’s message, the realities of human life and the book’s social relevance. The session was attended by branch president Jannatul Ferdous, general secretary Shahriar Munim Sabit, vice presidents Mazharul Islam, Sushanta Roy and Al Mamun, joint general secretary Kameli Jannat, sports secretary Md. Ashikur Islam, skills and training secretary Arik Rahman Khan, women’s affairs secretary Azizia Salma, assistant women’s affairs secretary Mst. Sumaiya Akter Jyoti, women and children affairs secretary Mariam Binte Noor, event secretary Abu Jihad, assistant publicity secretary Abdullah Al Maher, assistant education and book circle secretary Md. Zakaria Hossain and executive members Mamun Or Rashid, Md. Faruk Hossain, Mahmudul Hasan, Md. Naiemur Rahman, Md. Mehedi Hasan and Md. Nazim Uddin Masum, among others.
The organisers said similar activities will continue in the future to promote literary engagement, reading habits and intellectual growth among students.
