The Chittagong University unit of Basundhara Shuvosangho organised a tree plantation drive and dengue awareness campaign on campus on June 27 (Saturday). More than 50 trees were planted across different areas of the campus, and leaflets were distributed among students and general visitors to raise awareness about dengue fever.

The programme was presided over by unit president Jannatul Ferdous Tumpa and hosted by Mehedi Hasan Jiku. Around 50 students took part in the event. Among those present were unit advisors Professor Dr. Makhan Chandra Roy, Associate Professor Mohammad Mozammel Haque, and Assistant Professor Md. Roman Mia. Unit Vice-President Md. Saidur Rahman Sayeed and Sushanta Roy, General Secretary Shahriar Munim Sabit, Joint-General Secretaries Lilun Chakma and Kameli Jannat, and CU Assistant Proctor Nurul Hamid Kanon also attended.

Trees were planted at Nawab Faizunnesa Hall (10 trees), Atish Dipankar Hall (10 trees), and Shahid Farhad Hossain Hall (5 trees), including both fruit-bearing and timber species.

Advisor Professor Dr. Makhan Chandra Roy said he was genuinely glad to be part of such a lively and meaningful event after a long time. He praised the initiative and hoped similar efforts would be taken in the future. He also thanked Basundhara Shuvosangho for supporting students in doing good work, and expressed his wish that future programmes would be organised on a larger scale for the benefit of students, society, and the country. “We will all take part in good work to the best of our ability,” he added.

Advisor Mohammad Mozammel Haque noted that while many students on campus have good ideas and intentions, not everyone takes the step of planting trees. He said those who showed up that day deserved special recognition. “Your event may not be very big, but your hearts are,” he told the participants, adding that he was truly happy to be around people with such a noble spirit.

General Secretary Shahriar Munim Sabit said the campaign was motivated by the recognition that the monsoon season, while beautiful, also brings the threat of dengue. He thanked all volunteers for making the event a success, with special mention of Joint-Organising Secretary Shuvo Ali and member Mahmudul Hasan. He also thanked Basundhara Shuvosangho for their overall support, and closed by expressing hope that the level of participation seen that day would continue and that more community-focused social programmes would be held in the future.
