DAAD officials guide students on higher education opportunities in Germany

Chittagong University Research and Higher Studies Society (CURHS), in collaboration with DAAD Bangladesh, organised an informative session on the German DAAD Scholarship at the CU BBA Auditorium yesterday afternoon.

More than 300 students attended the session, which aimed to guide those aspiring to pursue higher education and research in Germany.

The session featured two speakers from DAAD. Mayabee Arannya, Project Coordinator at Goethe-Institut Bangladesh, opened the session by discussing various aspects of higher education in Germany, including leadership, youth empowerment, international collaboration and cultural exchange. Drawing from her own experience, she showed how young people can turn their vision into reality and establish themselves on the global stage.

Mahmudul Hasan Suman, Regional Officer of DAAD Information Centre Dhaka, then spoke about how strategic planning, programme collaboration and international academic exchange play important roles in shaping a student’s future. With over 17 years of experience, he explained the work and opportunities of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in a way that sparked new interest among students.

Also present at the session were Prof Dr Mohammad Shahabuddin, Director of the Office for International Affairs and professor of the Management Department, and Prof Dr Adnan Mannan, CURHS moderator and professor of the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Department.

Two DAAD scholars also attended — Dr Sohag Mia, assistant professor at the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, and Prof Dr Jewel Das of the Institute of Marine Sciences and Fisheries. Former alumni, executive members and general members of CURHS were also present. The programme was hosted by Tazneen Mehzabin and Sumaiya Akter Juthi.

A question and answer session followed, where students directly asked about studying in Germany, scholarship opportunities and the application process.

Prof Dr Adnan Mannan said, “If you make a list of the top five countries for higher education, Germany will be among the first three. So study hard and explore the world with Germany.”

Responding to a question, Dr Sohag Mia shared his experience of studying in Germany and working at an environment-based institution. “Learn the language, keep trying and apply. Who knows, one day something amazing might surprise you,” he told students.

At the conclusion, CURHS President Sanjida Haq Prima and General Secretary Amit presented tokens of appreciation to the guests.

CURHS, a student-led organisation at Chittagong University, has long been working to build a research-oriented culture and raise awareness about higher education opportunities at home and abroad.
