A first-year student of Chittagong University (CU) has filed a case against a food cart worker, accusing him of molesting her while she was boarding a university shuttle train at the campus railway station on Tuesday afternoon. The accused was later handed over to Chattogram Railway Police and is set to be produced before a court.

The accused, identified as Md. Shahin Sheikh, is a resident of Lohagara upazila in Narail district. He was employed at the “Cargo Café” food cart located at the university railway station.

According to the victim and eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 4:40 pm when the student was boarding a shuttle train bound for Chattogram city after classes. Fellow students who witnessed the alleged incident detained Shahin on the spot and questioned him. He denied the allegation.

Members of the university’s proctorial body later arrived at the scene and took both the accused and the complainant to the university’s security office. Following preliminary questioning in the presence of Proctor Dr. Hossain Shaid Shohrowardhy and assistant proctors, the accused was handed over to Chattogram Railway Police around 10:00 pm with the victim’s consent. The student subsequently filed a formal case.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chattogram Railway Police Station Md. Nurul Huda confirmed that a case had been filed on Tuesday night over the alleged molestation at the university station. He said the accused would be sent to court.

Proctor Dr. Hossain Shaid Shohrowardhy said the university administration would provide full cooperation to ensure a fair investigation and exemplary justice. He added that the victim had been advised to pursue legal action.

Referring to broader security concerns at the station, the proctor said the railway station area had become overcrowded due to illegal occupation, expansion of unauthorised businesses and the presence of outsiders operating through outsourcing arrangements. He announced that the university administration would begin clearing illegal structures within the next 24 hours and that no business would be allowed to operate at the station without administrative approval and a valid agreement.
