CU Correspondent

Chittagong University (CU) has launched the admission process for its January 2026 session MPhil and PhD programs, offering both full-time and part-time study options. The programs are available across all departments, institutes under various faculties, and the Jamal Nazrul Islam Research Centre for Mathematical and Physical Sciences.
Successful candidates will receive monthly stipends based on merit: Tk 20,000 for MPhil students over two years and Tk 40,000 for PhD scholars over three years.

Application Process:
Prospective applicants need to pay an application fee of Tk 500 for both MPhil and PhD programs (full-time and part-time). The application form is available for download on the Chittagong University official website. Completed forms must be submitted to the Higher Education and Research Section at the Registrar’s Office during office hours by March 5, accompanied by a bank draft or pay order from any Agrani Bank or Janata Bank branch, made payable to the CU Registrar.

MPhil Program Requirements:
Graduates holding honors and master’s degrees in relevant disciplines from CU or any recognized Bangladeshi university are eligible to apply. International candidates with equivalent qualifications from foreign universities may also apply.
Minimum requirements include: GPA of 3.50 or above in SSC/Dakhil and HSC/Alim (or equivalent); combined CGPA/GPA of at least 6.50 across honors and master’s degrees, with a minimum of 3.0 in each program. Five-year degree holders in MBBS/BDS/B.Pharm are also eligible.
Candidates from class-based examination systems must have secured second class in both honors and master’s levels, along with second division (minimum 55% marks) in SSC/Dakhil and HSC/Alim or equivalent examinations.

PhD Program Requirements:
Applicants must hold the necessary academic credentials in relevant fields from CU or other recognized universities in Bangladesh.
Essential qualifications: GPA of 3.50 or higher in SSC/Dakhil and HSC/Alim (or equivalent); total CGPA/GPA of 6.75 or above in undergraduate and postgraduate programs, with at least 3.25 in each degree.
For class-based examination graduates, second class standing in both honors and master’s programs is required, plus second division (55% minimum) in SSC/Dakhil and HSC/Alim or equivalent.

Alternative Entry Pathways:
Multiple entry routes exist for qualified candidates:

  • MPhil degree holders from recognized domestic or international institutions, or candidates with a second master’s degree from foreign universities.
  • Individuals with combined undergraduate and graduate CGPA/GPA of 7.0 (minimum 3.25 each) and at least one peer-reviewed journal ppublication.
  • Educators with seven years of teaching experience in honors and master’s programs at recognized institutions (including five years in those courses) who have published at least one article in a peer-reviewed journal.
  • CU faculty members with a minimum of one peer-reviewed publication.
  • Five-year medical/dental/pharmacy degree holders with two peer-reviewed publications.
  • Research officers from government/government-affiliated/autonomous research institutions with three years of experience and at least three published articles in recognized journals.

Admission Testing:
All applicants will undergo written and oral examinations administered by their respective departments, institutes, or research centers. These tests assess research preparedness and subject-specific knowledge. Examination fees must be paid in cash directly to the relevant department/institute/research center.
