Organization vows stronger advocacy for student rights and campus welfare

Chittagong University’s student organization Voice of Students has announced its new executive committee, appointing Ashikur Rahman as president and Tania Akter Mahi as general secretary for the upcoming term.

The comprehensive 40-member committee was approved at a recent organizational meeting, marking a new chapter in the platform’s commitment to representing student interests and addressing campus concerns.

The senior leadership includes Abu Nasim as senior vice president, while Iftekhar Hossain and Rabiul Hasan Shafi will serve as vice presidents and co-founders. Sultanul Arefin takes on the role of senior joint secretary and co-founder, with Md Shanto Mia as joint secretary.

The organizing wing will be led by Ulfatur Rahman Rakib and Wahida Sultana Nilima. Habibur Rahman Sumon will manage office affairs as office secretary, supported by Assistant Office Secretary Suyaeb Islam Shuvo.

Financial matters will be handled by Finance Secretaries Imtiaz Ismail and Arafat Al Riad. The events team comprises Syeda Waziha Nawer and Jachia Marium, while cultural activities fall under Maria Alam, Shakibur Rahman, and Assistant Cultural Secretary Sumaiya Mim.

Public relations will be managed by a three-member team: Ali Ahsan Mojahid, Umme Hunny Usrat, and Torikul Islam Pothik. Media and communication responsibilities go to Mazharul Islam Shuvo and Rahul Hasan, with Ziaur Rahman serving as multimedia secretary.

The logistics department features four secretaries: Abu Saleh Ibrahim, Mohammad Osman Goni, Zuraiyed Hakim, and Monowar Hosain Orpan. Programme coordination will be handled by Nurzahan Alam Bristy, Imam Hasan, Sumaiya Islam, and Mostakim Chowdhury Samy. Sazzad Bin Ahasan will oversee literature and publications.

The executive members include Tasnim Binte Mazhar, Shaila Akter Nipa, Masudur Rahman Nayon, Tajkiratun Nur Opi, Abrar Rahman, Humaira Taspika Tisha, Tonmoy Saha, Uthshob Sarker, and Sabbir Hossain.

Speaking about the organization’s direction, newly elected President Ashiqur Rahman emphasized a proactive approach to student welfare. “We will always be vocal in achieving the legitimate demands of students. Constructive initiatives will be taken on various issues including housing, transport and academic complications,” he said.

He outlined plans to address persistent challenges facing students, from accommodation shortages to transportation difficulties and academic administrative hurdles.

General Secretary Tania Akter Mahi articulated the committee’s core mission: “Our goal is to stand by students by making the organization more organized. Logical demands will be presented to the administration while maintaining a positive environment on campus.”

She stressed the importance of building a stronger organizational framework to effectively advocate for student rights while fostering constructive dialogue with university authorities.

Members expressed optimism that the new committee will bring fresh energy and innovative approaches to longstanding issues while maintaining the organization’s tradition of peaceful advocacy and constructive engagement.
